Norma Hinkle

The Armstrong County Museum of Claude is proud to share the art of Norma Hinkle from Pampa during January and February in the Art Gallery.

Norma held the distinction of being Pampa’s Fine Arts Artist of the Year for 2010.  She creates with both oils and water colors.  Her work is often called “nostalgic” because much of it is rustic and heart-warming. Much of her work is available for purchase.

Norma has been drawing and painting since childhood.  She says she always loved art.  She grew up in Clarendon and attended Clarendon Jr. College. She graduated from West Texas State University. Her elementary teaching career began in Paducah for four years.  She spent nine years teaching on the Navajo Reservation in Chinle, Arizona, and retired after 20 years teaching second grade in Pampa.

For many years, Norma has been active in the Pampa Art Club where she enjoys fellow artists, friends, lessons, and art shows.  Fifty of her paintings hung in the White Deer Land Museum and her work is a part of the Pampa Art Club’s annual show in May. Norma also appreciates the Amarillo Art Institute and the Dumas Art Center.  She says she has been privileged to study and learn from a variety of area artists as well as her “painting buddies.” She is also grateful to her husband, Darrell, who encourages her art.

A reception will be hosted to introduce Norma Hinkle and her fine art work on Saturday, February 4, at 6:30 p.m., in the Armstrong County Museum Art Gallery in Claude.  The reception will be followed by a lively performance in the Gem Theatre at 7:30 p.m.

Norma’s refreshing art work can be viewed in the Art Gallery anytime during Museum business hours, 12 – 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday weekly.  Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Museum, drink in the nostalgic art of Norma Hinkle through February.
